What is the Windows "Portable ZIP" edition? How is it different from the installer?

The Portable ZIP edition (Windows x64) runs without an installer — just unzip it anywhere and run nosqlbooster4mongo.exe. It needs no administrator rights and makes no changes to the system registry, which makes it ideal for locked-down enterprise environments, running from a USB drive, or keeping multiple versions side by side.

Unlike the installer editions, the portable edition stores all of its data (connections, settings, window state, cache, etc.) in a .nosqlbooster-data folder next to the executable instead of %APPDATA%. Move that folder and your entire environment comes with it.

Because it has no installer infrastructure, the portable edition does not auto-update. It will still notify you when a new version is available and direct you to this download page to grab the latest ZIP manually.

What is a "Linux AppImage"? How do I install it?

The AppImage format is a format for packaging applications in a way that allows them to run on a variety of different target systems (base operating systems, distributions) without further modification.

AppImages can be downloaded and run without installation or the need for root rights.

Note: AppImages require FUSE v2 to run in Ubuntu.

Installing FUSE 2

For Ubuntu 24.04 and later (26.04):

sudo apt install libfuse2t64

For Ubuntu 22.04:

sudo apt install libfuse2

Making it executable

You can make the AppImage executable as follows:

chmod a+x nosqlbooster4mongo*.AppImage

Executing it

You can execute an AppImage as follows:

./nosqlbooster4mongo*.AppImage
